Race's older sister Rosanne Wong plays Jas, Jin's best friend, with whom she shares an extremely intimate relationship. Despite the accolades she receives, Jin is dissatisfied with her work. One day, she witnesses a fatal car accident, and impulsively turns her camera on the dying victim. It's a breakthrough for Jin, and she begins to grow more and more obsessed with photographing death. Jin is being pursued by Anson (Anson Leung of One Night in Mongkok), a fellow student who follows her around with a camcorder. Jin tries to make it clear to Anson that she's not interested, but he continues to dog her. As Jin becomes more and more obsessive about death images, she begins flashing back to a traumatic childhood incident of sexual abuse. Jas helps her to confront her past, but just as it seems she is ready to move on with her life, she receives a portfolio of disturbing photos and a videotape of what appears to be a woman being tortured to death. Ab-normal Beauty had its U.S. Premiere at the 2005 Asian American International Film Festival. Josh Ralske, Rovi

This movie started out a certain way and then veered to a completely unexpected direction. I first watched this on Sundance or IFC and it dwelled on my mind for the longest time. The story is very captivating and you can really find yourself drawn to the characters and their pain. It was excellently made and the score was very well incorporated into the imagery in such a way as to be very aesthetically pleasing and modern and realistic.
***SPOILER***REVIEW***
The story is about Jiney "Jin", an aspiring photographer who finds herself with an abnormal obsession with death imagery. The movie presents this in such a way as to suggest that she may lose control and slowly reveals the abuse she suffered as a child.
She has a relationship with a girl, Jas (she's a lesbian) and if you don't pay attention you might not think so. I think that part of that is because the actresses playing the characters are sisters in real life (weird, right?).
Anyways, this is a haunting movie in many ways and I don't recommend watching it if you cannot tolerate grisly torture sounds and photographs of corpses. I do not usually tolerate such things, but this movie is very well made and original and I recommend it despite its morbid and macabre tone.
