The book, People who Made History: Albert Einstein is about the scientific life of Albert Einstein who lived from March 14, 1879 to April 18, 1955. The book is written by many authors including Albert Einstein himself. Ever since he was a little boy, Albert was very scientific and mathematically minded. It started when his father gave him a compass on his death bed. He was so interested that he graduated high school at age 17 and graduated college at 20 with a degree in physics. His first ligitament job was at a patent office in Bern, Swiss where he did most of his research and published his paper on special relativity. After he worked on special relativity he went on to publish a paper about 10 years later on general relativity in 1915. Then he got a nobel prize in 1922 for his explanation of the photo-electric effect which is when a photon(A beam of light) bounces off of a piece of metal an electron is released. Then he went on to being an advocate for Zionism and pacifism. Also during the time period of 1930-1955 he worked on a unified field theorem which foucoses on the connection between gravitation and magnetism.
What is interesting about this book however is that it purposely says that Albert Einstein was always told that he wouldn?t amount to anything in life and yet he was quoted as ?being the person that changed the century? by time magazine. This book shows his struggles and his gains all the way up to his death and how his work is still changing the world around us today. He pushed through with what he believed in, found evidence, and compiled it all together to become an inspiration to many people as the book shows. He even had debates with another famous physist, Neils Bohr who he disagreed about with the unified field theorem eventually making a mutual friend commit suicide because the friend couldn?t take them both fighting. Eventually though as the book shows he went beyond the limits set on him by everyone else and became the greatest physist of all time. Overall the book does a great job about telling the life story of Albert Einstein because it conveys tons of facts about Einstein, it tells the emotional times throughout his life including the time of his divorce between his first wife Mileva Maric, and his struggles with the unified field theorem, all while having a great impact on the readers idea of Einstein.
What is interesting about this book is that this book is written by many different authors including Einstein himself and actually in turn worked out extremely well. This worked out well because it gave a couple different views about a topic and different writing styles about the topic while still moving on and making the book meaningful. I also think that the layout of the book surprised me the most because it was one of the best books I have ever read but yet it was written by different people. What was also surprising was that the amount of interesting facts and stories that aren?t really known about Einsteins life are told, as well as the misconception of him being the father of the atomic bomb is explained. I think though that the many facts and writing styles from the different authors of the book was very interesting, however it got boring when the authors quoted Einstein because it was hard to interpret the quotes. The book was a medium level text as you needed to have some background on some physics concepts in order to get some stuff and it should be read by people who really like physics.
