The central character of Penryn has a wonderfully earthy grace, her hardships are both plain and complexed. Her one goal keeps her on and of a singular focus, to regain her helpless sister from the angels. The world that was once familiar has now been destroyed by those humanity once dreamed existed in a peaceful vision. Once considered mythical the angels are now a reality but an unwelcome one that has upended life and turned every day into a test of survival. There are no lengths that Penryn will not go to and along the way suffering, terror, and fright seem to be an acceptable stepping stone. Her wonderful interaction with those that she meets along the way lend to her strengths and also showcase her weaknesses and the stark contrast between the two races. This book is of a quality sometimes difficult to find and impossible to put down. The writing is fresh and creative with an enjoyable flow that keeps the reader trapped in a state of anticipation.
