Drifting from town to town, Yanka supplies the unborn creature with new victims, all the while conversing with the chatty little monster (making for some of the weirdest dialogue scenes in film history) and heeding its instructions to carry it back to the sea which spawned it... it seems the creature is some sort of intelligent mutant form of sea sludge, born of industrial pollutants and whatnot.
