It is filled with anecdotes and gossip about Crimp s sexual exploits, disco, offbeat cinema, life behind the scenes at Art News and during the early days of October, a bizarre trip to visit Agnes Martin in New Mexico, Crimp s early jobs with fashion designer Charles James and climbing the ranks at the Guggenheim Museum. The book also features some excellent art criticism centered on important shows of the era (such as a 1971 installation by Daniel Buren) juxtaposed with recipes and asides about New York socialites and the dance world. In the art world, Crimp is most renowned for having invented the term Pictures Generation, and for launching the artists who comprised the movement, such as Robert Longo, John Baldessari, Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, and David Salle.
