However, I have been blessed to live in a time when there are more curative and healing notions, in a time where people are allowed to speak frankly. Anne Sexton broke all the rules, for people like me. I regard her as a mentor and a heroine. Even though Anne Sexton did not have some of my abusive past, she did have a bleak future because of the nature phycotropic medicines and therapy at that time. My mother and father had these same problems, as did I and my son, for many years. This is a different time for us, it can become a new healing experience. If it were not for Anne Sexton's writing, I would not have the freedom I do now, in my own poetry, or even in my life. I am a poet who is mentally ill, like Anne.
