He simplified and corrected Boole's earlier work on logic. His first work, The Coal Question (1865), was written on coal distribution, attracted the attention of Gladstone, who was the first to make Jevons well-known in economics. His work on pure logic is very important. Jevons died by accidental drowning, probably the result of a heart attack, off the coast of Kent. The present work's chief purpose was the promotion of practical training in logic.
