This biography of George Washington Carver is my favorite. It not only tells the amazing story of his life, but describes how his faith in God led him to choose to serve people rather than pursuing more lucrative paths that would have made his more well-known in his time. His life is an example of perseverance, humility, service, resourcefulness, and simple love for God and his fellow man. Rackham Holt wrote this book in a way that shows George Washington Carver for who he was - a soft-spoken, mild hero who served and loved and used his abilities for good. What would have happened to the people of the South during the Reconstruction period without men like GWC, using their intelligence to provide the necessary change for people to survive the turmoil and destruction of the post-war south?
