I've enjoyed Susan Howatch's books, such as Cashelmara, Penmarric, The Rich are Different. I like her style. But this book had a different style and was nothing like what I expected. While her previous characters had strengths and/or failures which shaped their lives, the characters in Glittering Images, I felt, were shallow.

I did not read this book. My husband did and he loved it. He said I wouldn't like it because it had too much of a "religious bent" to it. It was, to him, far different than Howatch's earlier classics that I loved, such as Penmarric, The Rich Are Different, and Sins of the Fathers.
