"King Arthur" by Henry Gilbert is a masterfully crafted retelling of the legendary stories surrounding the most famous monarch in British folklore. This work brings to life the vibrant world of Camelot, following the rise of Arthur Pendragon from his humble beginnings to his coronation after drawing the sword from the stone. Readers are invited to join the Knights of the Round Table on their perilous quests, experiencing the high ideals of chivalry, honor, and bravery that define their fellowship. Through Gilbert's evocative prose, the narrative explores the mystical influence of the wizard Merlin, the prowess of Sir Lancelot, and the spiritual pursuit of the Holy Grail. Each chapter presents classic episodes of Arthurian myth, including the acquisition of the magical blade Excalibur and the complex relationships that ultimately test the stability of the kingdom. Suitable for both young readers and adults, "King Arthur" captures the enduring magic of medieval romance. It emphasizes the timeless struggle between good and evil while highlighting the heroic virtues that have made these tales a cornerstone of Western literature. I first read KING ARTHUR FOR BOYS when I was about 10 years old, and it changed my life. The ideals of Christian chivalry it impressed upon me sustained me through the "dark ages" of college doubt, and created within my a fascination with medievalism that has lasted a lifetime. I've read dozens of renderings of the King Arthur story since then, but Gilbert's is the best. I've read it to my children and am passing it on to my grandchildren.
