Denmark beauty Berit Bech is gorgeous, a stunning blonde that holds a guitar with an erotic appeal typical of Maxim's usual cover girls. This is the first thing that grabs your attention about Maxim Rocks!, the magazine's first attempt at a mix CD. And they make sure the sex appeal carries into other aspects of the album; just plop the disc into your PC and you'll be treated to a slide show of Brech that offers pictures of her straddling a guitar in all sorts of naughty poses. So why is this important? Because this is the area that the company put the most effort, as evidenced by the music found here. A few choice bands contribute some tracks that don't sound like filler, but mostly this is a combination of one-hit wonder radio songs broken up by lesser tracks. A strange combination indeed, since the radio tracks (from A New Found Glory and Unwritten Law, among others) are solid rock songs that breathe life into the compilation, just to have bands like TRUST Company and Theory of a Deadman look pedestrian with their less-impressive efforts. Obviously put together as a promotional tool, there are at least a few moments that impress (like the Sinch/Queens of the Stone Age/Ryan Adams lineup in the middle). But mostly, this is an advertisement that uses popular bands and steamy pictures to promote a magazine, and it definitely succeeds on that front.
