Gabby is a charming young woman who receives a marriage proposal from her boyfriend the night before she's about to move to NYC for a new job and a new life. She loves the guy and wants to marry him but she's also really excited about her new city life so she wishes "upon a star" and asks for a way to be able to do both and live both lives and she gets her wish!
The book alternates between her life at home with her new fiancé' and her life in NY. She gets into entertaining antics while existing in the two different worlds that were really fun to read about. Sarah Mlynowski is adept at giving us a look through the eyes of a ?twenty-something?, with some of the associated stereotypes, but in a clean and fun way.
Gabby goes on dates while living in NY and ponders whether or not she?s cheating on her fiancé back in her hometown. She even goes shopping in one world for an event being held in the other and it winds up working out for her ? I wish I could do that! This type of story would not be an easy feat to accomplish successfully but Mlynowski is skillful in her approach and keeps the two worlds straight in the minds of the reader.
It was interesting to see to growth that Gabby goes through in her ?engaged? life ? her wedding plans with her fiancé Cam and his overbearing mother and her successes in the NY broadcasting world ? at one point, she finds out about a big story while living in the city and tries to be the first one to break the story in the other world with hilarious results.
Along the way Gabby figures out what's really most important to her and the "alternate universe" angle works well in this book and it was a fun story - recommended.
The one angle that I thought about after I finished reading this book is about her friendship with her former college roomie ? she finds out while existing in one universe that her best girlfriend betrayed her in the other ?world? and I wonder if she would remain friends with her after that - Great story line ? enjoyable characters.
