What a great read for a dreary Northwest day -- not only does Ms. Dallas actually create an intriguing mystery, but while doing so, she describes the south so vivdly that you can feel the oppressive heat, smell the dripping greenery, and hear the drawls. Set in 1933 Natchez, Mississippi, the reader follows Nora Bondurant as she uncovers secrets about her inheritance: the crumbling house of a grandmother she didn't know about and its inhabitants and neighbors. For those of you, like myself, (a Yankee) who don't really understand "the South", this books gives at least a cursory glance into what it means to Southerners to reside in small a Southern town. One of the better books I've read in a long time.
