Pargeters is another tour de force by the late Norah Lofts. Perhaps not one of her very best, but nevertheless, a carefully researched yet never tedious escape into 17 century Enlgand the England of the Roundheads and Cavaliers, but from the ground up, from the family perspective of what it meant to be on the losing or winning side.
