This proliferation may lead to hepatocarcinogenesis in rodents. Interest in peroxisomes stems not only fromtheir biology, but also because there is a deficiency of peroxisomal functions in several genetic diseases. Some genes involved in inborn errors of peroxisomal function have recently been identified.
