Chicago Tribune What would happen without Death? The denizens of the Discworld are about to find out in this captivating entry in New York Times bestselling author Terry Pratchett s Discworld series. They say there are only two things you can count on: death and taxes. But that was before Death started pondering the existential. Now Death is facing his own demise, fired by the Auditors of Reality for developing a personality. Sentenced to live like everyone else, the entity formerly known as the Grim Reaper takes a new name and becomes a farmhand. He s an expert with a scythe, after all. Frolicking in greener pastures, Death is having the time of his life. For humanity though, Death s loss leads to chaos, the kind that always arises when an important public service is cut. But what happens if Death doesn t come for you? What do you do when your time is supposed to be up? The undead can t be left wandering about like lost souls there s no telling what might happen. Particularly when they discover that life really is only for the living...

Death takes a holiday
We all have our favourite Discworld character and mine is DEATH - how can you not like this guy & his attempts to understand mankind whilst harvesting our souls from the back of his trusty steed Binky? And he LOVES CATS, so he's gotta be a great guy!
Death has an experience that requires him to go off and think about the meaning of life, death, the universe and decides to take a break from his normal duties of greeting mortals at the moment of death (haha!). This is a crucial story in the development of Death as an individual and rounds out his personality nicely. From start to finish, this book held my undivided attention (I missed my train stop on the way to work and had to backtrack 3 stations).
I have to say, this is my FAVOURITE book starring Death in the leadrole - in fact, it's my favourite Discworld novel thus far (and I've read all but a few, so there are lots of stories being "compared" here). Honestly, I don't want to give away any of the plot, this book deserves to be read without pre-concieved ideas of where the story is heading - so go out there and read it!
