Rickles' Letters was an average book.
To be fair to Don Rickles, it's far harder to be funny on page than on stage. When he's speaking, he's got comedic timing and intonation, but on paper, all he's got is punctuation.
Frankly, the book didn't seem too funny to me. It didn't help that there were a few recipients of his "letters" that I hadn't heard of, but even with those that I knew it often wasn't funny.
While reading, I could tell that the text, were it spoken out loud, would be funny, but it wasn't funny in my head.
An occasional letter may have had something to smile about, but I wasn't clutching my stomach from laughter at any of them.
