Todays technology outdates this, but it's fantasy and it's really good fantasy. Burroughs ability to spin a tale and keep the reader turning pages makes these books fun for me and my kids.

Excellent continuation of the series.
Swords of Mars, the 8th book in Edgar Rice Burroughs timeless Barsoom series, is an excellent book. The book recounts the story of how the perennial hero, John Carter, late of Virginia but now hailed as Warlord of Mars, infiltrates the conquered city of Zondanga in order to undermine and destroy the Assassin's Guild within. Posing once again as a countryless panthan (soldier of fortune) and taking the name of Vandor, John Carter finds himself in the employ of a brilliant (but cruel) scientist, Fal Sivas. The story follows John Carter as he is embroiled in a bitter rivalry between Fal Sivas and another scientist, Gar Nal, that leads him from the streets of Zodanga to a vanishing civilization on Barsoom's tiny moon, Thuria. An excellent book that does the series proud. Burroughs brings back the Warlod of Mars and throws him in with some new and memorable characters, and keeps the series both interesting and entertaining.
