This book is an excellent overall text for the Reformations that shook Europe in the sixteenth century. Written in an accessible style and covering a wide range of topics - including the social-justice angle that's so often neglected - it's a good choice for a survey course at the undergrad level. These same virtues make it a winner for the general reader as well, since it assumes little or no background to the period and gives explanations of the theology that drove the Reformations. It's a good read no matter what level of interest you have.
