Very Good in Good jacket. Springfield, Illinois: Charles C. Thomas, 1969. xiv, 805 pp. 26 x 18.5 cm. Brown cloth (faux leather) covered boards with gilt lettering to cover and spine, in a white dustjacket with brown lettering. Toning to spine of jacket, with uneven toning and some soil to other panels. Nicking and bumping to head of spine of jacket, with a few short closed tears to extremities of jacket. Jacket is now protected in a mylar cover. Light bumping and rubbing to spine ends of book, with some very light bumps to corners of boards. Faint freckling to edges of text block. Signed, inscribed, and dated by Webb Haymaker in blue ink on upper corner of front pastedown. Some light foxing to front and rear free endpapers and adjacent page. Interiors otherwise clean and unmarked. Binding sound. Due to the weight of this book, additional shipping may be required for international orders. The book was inscribed to Cornelius Tobias, who was a pioneer in studying the effects of cosmic rays and ionizing radiation on living organisms. Tobias was born in Budapest and came to study in the US in 1939. Tobias discovered and proved that the mysterious light flashes and streaks that were witnessed by the Apollo astronauts were caused by cosmic rays colliding with atoms in the eyes.
