Arthur (Terence Stamp) has shared a fruitful and enduring marriage with his wife Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) when he receives the devastating news that their days together are numbered. Meanwhile, Arthur's already dour attitude grows increasingly grim with each passing day. When the senior's choir that Marion sings in shows up at their window one stormy morning to serenade them with Stevie Wonder's "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," Arthur completely loses his cool and snaps at the well-intentioned crooners.
