Seller's Description:
Very Good. No Dustjacket. An extraordinarily popular collection of poems written in and about Hawaii. First published in 1928, the book went through two printings a year for many years, and Blanding became the most popular American poet of the period. This captivatingly imaginative work unveils a boundless, whimsical realm where a vagabond reigns. The expansive horizons that encompass the vagabond's dwelling represent the limitless nature of their freedom. They traverse the boundless expanse of dreams, discarding Evocative, delving into the Poignant depths of their imaginative world. This work, akin to the author's other compositions, offers a poignant celebration of unfettered individualism and the pursuit of unconventional existences. Donald Benson Blanding (1894-1957) was an American poet, sometimes described as the poet laureate of Hawaii. He was also a journalist, cartoonist, author and speaker.

Paradise Found
Don Blanding wrote this book while living in Hawaii. He let the islands speak to his inner man and then wrote poetry about what he learned. Later he made illustrations to go along with the poems. Blanding was a remarkable man with keen insights. His poetry is often tongue in cheek, but no less perceptive. The illustrations are striking also.

An oldie but a goodie
I love Don Blanding's poetry--it still resonates today even though it was written in the late '20s, then through the '30s and '40s. Give it a try--the songs of longing for the beauty of the Pacific Islands (especially Hawaii) are beautiful. On top of that, you get art, too--beautiful black and white brush-and-ink drawings. very angular, modern, and beautiful... In many of his books, he said that the poems are "word pictures," and that is exactly how they make you feel.
