An outlaw and a witch. As if that weren't enough of a story....but that they are headed in the same direction (for very different reasons/outcomes) matters little. That she holds the key to a Barony she knows nothing about adds to the mystique. He knows if the stone she holds is true, she is his sworn and bitter enemy. For something his family did years prior to hers. Her quest is simple, she wants only to find out her birthright. He already knows it and keeps her, to protect AND use her, while heading toward his goal of ultimate revenge against his own family. Their story is fraught with danger at every turn and they fight constantly at her imprisonment. She takes risks to escape, endangering herself and others around her. Still, she refuses determint from her goal. After all, she has done nothing wrong. A jealous little girl aids her with her own agenda, making it appear that she has done grevious harm to the outlaws friends. Through it all, he is besotted and wants to protect her. She gets away and the real story is tossed into high gear. At the point of no return, taken prisoner, the story comes to a surprising head in the heat of battle. That a surprise this far into the story can remain is a great twist. A fantastic read - you will want to read again!
