She was a young woman recovering from a devistating loss. Given another chance by a greasy lawyer - she seizes it. He is an outcast from birth - born outside marriage and hated by many for this. His life is tough and he is finally faced with moving on when his mother choses a horrible man (his father) who sired him (but hates him) over him. Fast forward nearly 16 years later.... She is living her life quietly - almost hidden away from the past with a willful son of nearly 16. He is contacted/brought up to date on much he knew nothing about and is forced into action. It is then they meet. Serendipity plays no role. He forces their meetings to get close to her. He is unsure of how guilty he is in a plot from the past. She has at least minor culpability for sure - beyond that he must find out. Along the way, he finds himself trying to protect her, her son and grappling with the need to do something about the unseen danger he knows is coming their way. Three parties involved behind the scenes want three very different things - all for different and very selfish reasons. He knows of two - but not the third. He cannot decide if he should squire the boy away to safety of another country (or keep hidden the boy) as is desired by the party that contacted him. Especially since meeting Kate and seeing her love for the boy and his for her. Ultimately, he is found out and his hand is forced by one of the other parties involved working against him. Then the plot is tossed into danger with time against them while trying to locate the prize to all (the boy). Great read to find out what happens and how. After the conclusion is determined about the boy, there is an added twist at the end. Great way to finally culminate the finale'.
