Seller's Description:
Fine in fine jacket. Oversized in illustrated softcovers; 200 pps. with index, bibliography, glossary of architectural terms. Illustrated with photographs and reproductions. Fine, fresh copy in bright, crisp dust jacket with a very short closed tear top left corner. Because few important buildings in Princeton have ever been destroyed, the town is a museum of American architectural history dating back to colonial times. In this handsome volume, profusely illustrated with photos, the authors compare the first simple farm structures to more elaborate Georgian style houses built in Princeton as it became a commercial link between New York and Philadelphia. They show Federal, Classical, and Romantic styles in their various combinations in the 19th century and describe the Collegiate Gothic architecture in 20th century Princeton that dominated until the late 1950s when work by architects such as Breyer and Yamasaki was begun.
